613 Concepts“If she is displeasing in the eyes of her master, who should have designated her for himself, he shall assist her in her redemption. He shall not have the power to sell her to a strange man for he had betrayed her.” (Exodus 21:8) The master must not sell his maidservant. (Rambam, Hilchot Avadim – The Laws of Slaves)

“For he had betrayed her,” “b’vigdo ba,” he dealt with her “Beged,” her garment, her body, not her soul. (Maharil Diskin) When we see only the physical person we forfeit our ability to connect them with others.
