I had the privilege to hear this 'short' story from R' Shlomo: Everybody knows that Chassidim would travel even hundreds of miles to be with their Rebbes for different holidays.
Unfortunately this meant leaving their families at home for the holiday, which was not optimal.
Many Chassidim did not wish to be away from their families during holidays and therefore would instead travel to join the Rebbe for a shabbos.
So, in a little shtet'le (villiage), Reuven and Moishe would travel together to the Holy Seer of Lublin for a specific shabbos.
They're doing this for 20 years.
Suddenly, the next year, each one of them thinks to himself" Who is this Reuven/ Moishe that I should travel with him to the Rebbe. I barely know him!
OK, this year we already made up to go together, but next year I'm going alone!
Of course, they did not say a word to each other.
They arrive in Lublin for that shabbos, and the way it was in Lublin- Firday nite the Chassidim go over to the Rebbe and he gives each one Lekhem Mishneh.
In former good years, when Reuven and Moishe approached the Rebbe, he'd look at them and give them connected challahs for Lekhem Mishneh.
This year The Seer looks at them and gives them separated challahs.
Oy!! Was that Friday night worse than the strongest Yom Kippur!!! Each one of the was thinking to himself "how could I have even entertained the idea of not coming for Shabbos by the Holy Seer together with my best friend Reuven/Moishe? What was I thinking!?! Surely, we'll keep coming for shabbos together to the Seer until Moshiakh is coming!!".
And,of course, they did not say a word to each other.
So, in Lublin the way it was, for the Third Meal, the Chassidim would also go over to the Rebbe to get Lekhem Mishneh.
Reuven and Moishe approach the Rebbe, he looks at them and gives them connected challahs for Lekhem Mishneh.
