Pesukei d’Zimrah-Slonim-Cause to Sing Print E-mail

Pesukei-Dzimrah-Songs-of-Praise-Kavanot-iPrayThe 28th of Adar is the Yahrtzeit of Rav Mordechai Kastelanitz of Lecovitz, the father of the Slonim Chassidic dynasty. Rabbi Mordechai was exceedingly poor in his early manhood. His wife and children often times went hungry. A relative found the Rabbi in the synagogue singing hymns.

“Your wife and children weep,” he said, “and you sing!”

“Well may they weep,” replied the Rabbi, “since they depend upon a mortal man. I, however, depend upon the All-Powerful, and I have cause to sing." (Midor Dor, page 238)
