Pesukei D’Zimrah-Turning To God Print E-mail
Written by Machberes Avodas Hashem

Prayer-Kavanot-Pesukei-Dzimrah-Songs-of-Praise“The eyes of all look to You with hope and You give them their food in its proper time; You open Your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing (Psalms 145).” All living beings wait upon, and lift up their eyes to the Only One for food, but the “Children of Faith” must not merely wait, but also pray for their daily bread. Such prayer has the power of bringing blessing every day upon the Tree from where all nourishment for body and soul emanates. Thus, even when he has sufficient food, a person of faith should pray for “daily bread,” so that through him there may be each day an increase of blessing in heaven, and this is the meaning of the words, “Blessed be God by day.” (Zohar II, 62a)

Application to the Tenth of Tevet:

The people in besieged Jerusalem waited until they were starving to turn their eyes to God and pray for nourishment. We must therefore use these days immediately preceding the anniversary of the Siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians, to for food pray each day for an increase of blessing in heaven that will then shower the entire world with Abundance.
