Iyun Tefillah: Tzitzit Print E-mail

Morning BlessingsThe Bach (O”C 8 & 625) writes that although a person is considered to have fulfilled his obligation of a Mitzvah even if he does not have the clear intention to do as long as he intends to fulfill the will of God, Who commanded the specific Mitzvah, Tzitzit and Tefillin are different. The Torah includes “In order that you shall remember,” in the commandment of Tzitzit, and therefore a person must have in mind to remember all the Mitzvot when putting on his Tallit.

The meditation that is usually found in the Siddur is insufficient to fulfill this requirement, and I have therefore composed a more comprehensive preparation for the Mitzvah of Tzitzit:

“Behold, I am going to wrap myself in a Tallit that has proper Tzitzit, and this shall be for me a reminder to guard all the commandments of God to do them, and to sanctify myself, and to keep myself distant from all forbidden desires that will trap me in the evil plans of the Evil Inclination. But, I will be constantly a servant prepared to serve God.”
