The Music of Halacha: A Plea For Participation |
|
|
We do not have to wait for a difficult situation to arise to practice the laws of Bein Adam L’Chaveiro. I used to meet with a group of people in order to study these laws. Rather than simply present the complex Halachot
of Loving Others, Not Hating In Our Hearts, No Revenge, Not Bearing A Grudge etc. I asked that each week one person present a difficult situation with another person. We would go around the table and each person would offer suggestions as to how to best handle the situation.
I would then present the case and the suggestions from the perspective of Halacha. The members of the group began to automatically think of the Halacha whenever dealing with other people.
I could not sufficiently stress that these discussion groups were not only training sessions in Halacha, they were actually the fulfillment of these laws! When we train ourselves to think through the eyes of Halacha, we are applying those Mitzvot. They become part of us.
A few weeks ago I posted a Music of Halacha: A Case Study inviting comments and examples of other challenging interpersonal issues. I hoped that we would be able to use The Music of Halacha to achieve the same involvement in Halacha as we successfully did with the group described above.
I need your help. Please join in this conversation by offering your comments, suggestions and questions, so that we can all learn to hear The Music of Halacha.

If Jew A and Jew B are friends and A does something very hurtful to B unknowingly, and B no longer wishes to be friends with A....Is B required to tell A that he was hurt if B knows A won't think he did anything wrong, or would probably do it again? Is B allowed to stop being friends with A? How?
How should a parent teach his/her child/ren Kibud av V'em?
If a child tells a parent that a friend did something hurtful to them, What is the proper response to the child? If the friend repeatedly does hurtful things to the child, is a prent allowed to say to stop being friends? Not allowing the other child to their house and vice versa?
