What is the Reason: Rejoicing In a Weakness |
I have heard a number of Rabbis speak of the Evil Inclination as a friend and guide. Is this true? Is there a source? S.S.
It definitely is true. The Zohar uses a beautiful analogy to describe the Evil Inclination beginning as an ally that desires to report to the King that His son passed the test. The Arvei Nachal (Parshat Shelach) warns against feeling guilty when seized by desire: In truth one should rejoice and thank God for the gift of passion that simply needs redirection to his service of God. The joy in the gift and the pleasure in the potential will help the person redirect the destructive desire.
