What Is The Reason: Our Effect On Others |
|
|
XIV. When rabbis says your actions could affect others around you, I don't believe it’s fair because everyone should be held accountable for their own actions rather then
suffering from that of a friend’s…. I know we are all connected but it seems unfair?
Are you not affected by the behavior of others in a classroom? Haven’t you noticed how we affect each other’s moods? We are all affected by our parents and siblings. We live in a world in which we constantly affect those around us.
Would you say that Mahatma Gandhi or Mother Theresa’s influence on others was unfair? People were moved simply by being in their presence. People were different when they were in the presence of Rav Moshe Feinstein. They sensed that they were in the presence of greatness and were influenced to act and speak with more care.
Did you see Oliver Stone’s “The Doors”? People behaved with abandon when they were with Jim Morrison.
XV. Sex Before Marriage Why can't we have sex before marriage?
I don’t think that I can convince you, but the Torah wants us to reserve sex until marriage because the greatest physical pleasure can be the holiest act. It is only holy when based on mutual lifelong commitment. This Halacha is an expression of the beauty and wonderful gift of sex. The Torah wants us to experience it only at its highest and best/
This is not to deny the joy, pleasure, or even the expression of love that is possible without marriage, but none of those qualities are complete without commitment.
We also want our physical relationship with our spouse to be singularly ours and not colored by experiences with others.
