Parsha Mitzvot: Beshalach: Mitzvah 24 – Concept 90 Print E-mail

Parsha Mitzvot“See that God has given you the Shabbat. That is why He gives you on the sixth day a two-day portion of bread. Let every man remain in his place; let no man leave his place on the seventh day.” (Exodus 16:29)

A person may not walk outside the “Shabbat Boundary” on Shabbat. (Rambam, Hilchot Shabbat)

Since a person experiences rising to high levels on Shabbat, he may be fooled into thinking that he has achieved greatness. The verse therefore warns us, “Let every man remain in his place,” meaning recognize and acknowledge where you are and do not be fooled into thinking that you are above your “place.” (Rabbi Yisrael of Gur – Beit Yisrael)
