From Behind The Curtain: A Burst of Emotion Print E-mail
Written by Heshie HaGibbor

From Behind The CurtainIn re the question you proposed tonight in shiur:  How can I speak when I come before the Melceh Malchei HaMelachim, HaKadosh Boruch Hu,  and say the words “Ado-nai Sefasai Tiftach . . .”  before I bow down at the beginning of Shemoneh Esrei, when even before a Melech Basar V’Dam, eg, an Emperor, I must bow down without speaking?

Also, you said it’s a halacha regarding a melech, that you must first bow and not speak.

I touched on the answer before we left tonight, as I could tell by your facial expression and your comment. And on he way home, an idea popped into my head, kind of from behind the curtain, so to speak.

At Kriyas Yam Suf, Rashi says, Bikshu Malachei haShoreis lomrim Shira. Amar HKB”H, ‘Maaseh Yadai tovel bayam, v’atem omrim Shira?!’ My handiwork is drowning in the ocean and you want to say Shira?!

Then why were the B’nei Yisroel allowed to sing Shira?

The B’nei Yisroel were not prevented from singing Shira because they didn’t ask.
They just burst forth with the Shira spontaneously. They couldn't contain themselves.

The Malachim were denied that right because they asked. If you have to ask, If you have the presence of mind to ask, the answer is “No.”

But the B’nei Yisreol didn’t ask. They were so filled with EMOTION (all caps) and couldn't contain themselves. So they sang shira. It just came out of them.

So too, when we approach the King of Kings, and we are about to bow, if we have prepared and organized our thoughts and our praises of HKB”H properly, then as we step forward into Kodesh Kadashim, and as we realize Whom we are approaching, and how much He believes in us, and that we are about to have a private audience with the Creator of the Universe . . . then, in the awesomeness and the realization of the moment, if we are unable to contain ourselves and we BURST FORTH spontaneously with:
“A-DO-NAI ! ! ! SEFASAI TIFTACH ! ! !
We are not asking permission as the malachim did at Kriyas Yam Suf. We are, instead,  acting as the B’Nei Yisreol did, as Pinchas did when he killed Zimri and Kozbi, and therefore we are not in violation of  Hilchos Melachim. We are, in fact, on a totally different level.
We are Being Zealous, not disrespectful.

May we be zocheh to attain such levels whenever we daven and all throughout our daily lives. Because we are ALWAYS, and at every moment, standing before the Melech Malchei HaMelachim, HKB”H.

Shabbat Shalom.

Love

Heshie
