|Pirkei Avot 1:3: Moadai haRaayah|
“And let the awe of Heaven be upon you (Avot 1:3).” The source of this teaching is in the very beginning of Creation: The verse says, “The pillars of heaven tremble and are astonished at His rebuke (Job 26:11),” and our Sages taught that the Holy One, Blessed is He, shouted, and the fear of that shout keep the firmament firm in fear and awe. A person can draw his awe of Heaven from the fear and awe of the heavens.
This is why Rabbi Pinchas of Koretz would teach, “A person must look up to the sky each morning.” Reb Pinchas taught this so that a person would stir his Awe of God from the heavens; Yirat Shamayim means Yirah that derives from heaven, from looking up at the sky and drawing its awe of God into yourself!
