 "We can see right through you" The sacrificer’s offer “take as much as you want” reads literally as “take for yourself whatever your soul desires (‘te’awe’)” . The specific word for ‘desire’
derived from the root ‘wh has undertones of lustful desire and brings out the assistants’ true intentions of greediness. We detect in the sacrificer’s words “for yourself” (as opposed to “for the priests”) their doubt in the assistant and a sense of belief that he acted out of his own initiative. Indeed the sacrificers who use archaic speech (‘yaqtirun’ as opposed to ‘yaqtiru’), consequently imitated by the narrative, appear to be elderly and well familiar with the sacrificial practices at Shiloh
